for Urbanization Financing
A Voluntary-based and Non-binding Horizontal Cooperation Space
The AMUF Alliance aims at promoting the urban opportunity’s critical role for countries’ economic prosperity, social development, and resilience to climate change impacts.
African Ministers are committed to strengthen their mobilization, actively collaborate, and make change happen at regional and domestic levels of action, under the Alliance’s umbrella.
FMDV is the Secretariat of the Alliance.
Objectives of the Alliance
The AMUF Alliance aims to be a political, strategic and operational space facilitating financial innovation and access to the wide array of technical assistance, funding, and financing mechanisms. Four objectives were defined:
Agree on shared positions on urban development and transition financing to advocate in international and regional fora.
Share inspiring practices and strengthen cooperation between Ministers (peers) and with their partners: local and regional governments, public development banks and financing institutions, international and regional organizations, institutional and private investors, private sector.
Design and fund national urban development and transition financing strategies/programs and urban investment portfolios.
Innovate in the financial engineering for urbanization financing, and implement agile instruments, vehicles, and mechanisms to support a just, sustainable and resilient future for all in African Cities and Regions.

The Alliance is a voluntary-based and non-binding horizontal cooperation space.
The Alliance is open to all African Ministers involved in financing sustainable urban development & transition.
The Alliance fully aligns and contributes to the United Nations and the African Union’s institutional agendas.
The Alliance counts 40+ member countries, including 22 signatories of the Abidjan Declaration: Cabo Verde – Cameroon – Central African Republic – Côte d’Ivoire – Congo Brazzaville – Eswatini – Gabon – Ghana – Guinea Bissau – Guinea Conakry – Liberia – Kenya – Madagascar – Mali – Republic of Mauritius – Niger – Senegal – Somalia – Togo – Tchad – Union of the Comoros – Zimbabwe.
